My medium: oil handling and safety

Oil paint stays wet for days, blends beautifully, and can be scraped off and repainted. It also has rules that other media do not: layers dry at different speeds, and a painting built in the wrong order can crack years later. This module teaches those rules on small test sheets before they matter on a real painting.

Brushes and knife

Each brush shape has a job. A flat gives crisp strokes and clean edges; a filbert gives softer, rounded strokes and is the most forgiving all-rounder; a round is for lines and small accents. A palette knife mixes paint cleanly and can lay down thick, flat passages. Load the brush generously; most beginner strokes are too dry and too timid.
